But for working women with other responsibilities such as caring for children and domestic chores, their "tipping point" can come much earlier, at 34 hours. The healthy limit for men is 47 hours, mainly because they have fewer responsibilities outside the workplace. Domestic chores are considered as stressful as working hours.
The findings of this research in Perth showed that, "extreme" working hours (slogging for more than fifty hours a week) has been getting more widespread in recent decades. Recent research showed, 25-to-64-year-old men who usually work 50 or more hours per week on their main job rose from 14.7% in 1980 to 18.5% in 2001, and to 24.5% in 2016. This combined with the impact of computers, mobiles on changing peoples lifestyles is making life more stressful.
